Local Sales Rax Rates Rising in Five Counties

TALLAHASSEE - Florida taxpayers in six counties will see changes in county sales tax rates in January 2005. Businesses in affected counties should begin to prepare now to implement the new tax rates in January, the Florida Department of Revenue (DOR) said today.

Five counties will see increases in county sales tax rates ranging from 0.25 percent to 1 percent: Alachua, Hernando, Palm Beach, Pasco, and Polk Counties. In Marion County, county sales tax rates will drop from 1 percent to .5 percent. By state law, county sales tax rates can change once a year, on Jan. 1.

For additional details, see the list below or visit the DOR website at In addition, DOR mailed complete tax rate information to businesses in November. DOR tax education specialists also are available to help businesses comply with the new tax rates. Businesses seeking assistance should call the nearest DOR service center, listed in the Government listings (Blue Pages) of their local telephone directory, or call 1-800-352-3671 toll-free.
